CENTRAL Coast clubs blitzed the ironwoman events, while Newcastle teams dominated the boys' ranks in the first round of the Coast Loans Challenge for junior lifesavers at Avoca Beach on Saturday.
Central Coast Surf Lifesaving competition director Paul Quick said the youngsters battled it out in ideal conditions.
A 1.5m swell created challenging surf, but the pace of competitors on the beach proved vital in the first round.
Skilled beach sprinters had the advantage, with plenty of distance pegged out for the run legs.
Swansea-Belmont ironmen Jye Quinlan and Troy Ham won the under-14 and under-13 races respectively.
Thomas Fraser-Holmes (Newcastle) claimed victory in the under-11 ironman event.
The winning run of Macmasters Beach began with Dean Mackay's triumph in the under-12 competition.
Nicole Chapman (Macmasters) won the under-14 ironwoman race, while her clubmate, Lauren Hall, took out the under-12 contest.
Umina's Marrisa Moore grabbed the spoils in the under-11s, while there was no winner in the under-13s.
The Cameron Relay races were won by Avoca in the junior division and Umina in the seniors.
Round two of the Challenge will be at Shelly Beach, south of The Entrance, on November 23. * Catherine Hill Bay surfer Christian McCall took out the open division of the NSW boardriding titles at Maroubra Beach at the weekend.
McCall will progress to the national championships in Western Australia late next month.
Other Central Coast surfers to perform well in the field of 96 were Avoca's Nick Leslie (equal 14th) and Wamberal's Peter Hayes and Copacabana's Jesse Tait (both equal 20th).
Meanwhile, former Umina surfer Kyle Bryant won the kneeboard division.
